Luxury Boutique Property

Challenge

A luxury downtown boutique Toronto property had maintained the hotel with limited Human Resources expertise for two years and was concerned about legal and financial exposure if this were to continue.  Nicola Thomson was asked to provide a path to rectify this situation.

Solution

Nicola conducted a full Human Resources Audit including employee files, Human Resources policies and procedures, payroll, benefits compliance, employee relations programs plus conducted interviews with key hotel employees.  The Audit Report prioritized areas of concern with recommendations for compliance.  The Report also made recommendations to improve employee morale and the working conditions for all staff.

Results

All areas of non-compliance were brought into compliance, some with in-house training – such as Bill 168.  A key member of the managerial staff became a part-time Director of Human Resources who implemented the employee relations portion of the Audit Report, adding Programs such as Birthday & Anniversary Recognition, Employee Referral Program, upgrade of locker rooms and cafeteria; employee hot-line (hosted by Nicola Thomson as a 3rd Party)

Nicola  continues on-going consulting with the property, mentoring the DHR and offering guidance on critical issues.
